This is fantastic.
I can appreciate this sentiment. On top of that I would add “the joy of using the proper tool for the job” …whether for work or entertainment, is likely the true endorphin.

I think we deceive ourselves with “ownership” and its value a lot.

On The Joy Of Ownership. “We want to make things that people will get attached to and will use for a long time. And that’s at the core of our creating process. It’s simple and not that complicated.”

…in fact, I hope there is a misconception that consumerism is rewarding.

I hope that we value the thing or the service or the tool or the art or whatever it may be, because it prepares our minds to appreciate its usefulness. I hope that’s the chemical reward we need. Just like a wonderful tool breaks in over time and becomes more useful and beautiful.

Perhaps the patina reminds us of the usefulness over time.
Perhaps that’s why we appreciate quality and craftsmanship.

…I spend a fair amount of time in my lifetime hunting for tools that fit this mold: useful, beautiful, long lasting, durable…
Simply so that when I use it, it’s a joy to use.
Then I become attached to it.

I’d love to hear your perspective.
