Animal Magic Sans Type Design
An incredible release from a favorite artist. I'd recently picked up a few of Simon Green's older releases that I'd enjoyed from the '90s such as Animal Magic and then Days to Come.
Simon Green is an incredibly talented musician and has gone on to work with so many artists, singers, musicians, and played so many shows. He has an amazing career and body of work.
I managed to see him perform in Seattle a few years ago.
Favorite Track
It has to be the title track as my favorite. Such a calmly meandering and soothing track.
Here it is:
Bonobo was on a label called Ninja Tune in the '90s and they had an incredible catalog of artists, including another favorite Amon Tobin.
Cover Art

Inner sleeve design
They have a quick writeup about the project on their site: Black Sands
A custom typeface "Leroy" was created for the album which you can buy from Colophon Foundry, which is an interesting discovery to me. (Colophon purchased by Monotype, seen as of 2026)
The photography was shot by Pelle Crépin.

Other Works
As I mentioned his other albums "Animal Magic" and "Days to Come", don't forget "Dial 'M' for Monkey", but also, if you're into live music, this lovely short set of tunes from Bonobo's early career is quite good:

In fact, here is "Pick Up", remixed by Four Tet for that release (wait for the drums to kick in and not let up at 2:12!):
