Luke Dorny

I heard recently that Minidisc® production was coming to a close.

minidisc
The shiny Compact Disc style medium but quite a bit tinier and in a cartridge like a floppy disc.

So I quickly ordered twenty more blanks from Japan.

There are resources out there if you’re interested in grabbing a player or recorder, and for sure there are countless used discs you can purchase and write over if you like. There’s even a handy Chrome browser interface with your NetMD® player/recorder for easily loading tracks onto a disc via USB.

I keep my little blue Sony MD recorder in the vehicle for playing my favorite discs.

After lending this little baby to my babies to toy around with they promptly earned a nice patina and some dings of love, as you can see. Still works!

Blanks are around $4-5 each, or so. Relatively low cost for such a fun platform. I’ll share the fantastic setup I have here once I get some time.

Too bad they’ve stopped manufacturing them, but I suppose it’s a little more fun now?

Playlist

I did make an Music playlist of one of my MDs: https://typo.social/@Luke/113092455602924094 so here’s the playlist:
