Power of the Presses 0101

I noticed the “Power of the Presses” prints in the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art windows this week and had to stop in.

I’ve been to many letterpress workshops and they’re always fun, inspiring, creative, and physical artwork is powerful.

Even though the theme for the installation is about a print shop and letterpress themed topics, complete with selections of wood type, some sample lockups…

…and several prints by Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr. on the walls??

This, I was not ready for:

Mind blown. Mr. Kennedy, Jr. had released a new book about his activist printing history published by the wonderful Letterform Archive. There were a few books on hand, too. They have one less, now!

I confirmed that the tour for his book is listed at the bottom of the book’s page and our little island is on the list. I’m hopeful he’s able to make it up here to speak about his story, because I’d love to hear it all and meet the printer.

It’s a highly visual and compelling work, pick up his book now, and get a discount if you’re a member of the LfA.
