Now that we’re on the topic of robots and books about robots (see related pages below), let’s go back to the one that really got me hyped about the topic of AGI in 2012: Robopocalypse.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: “Hyped about AGI”? Well, it was disturbing then, just like now.

For years, and to this day, I mention this book frequently, like a full-on robo-claqueur for the book.

There’s one particular part of the story when a character is mentioning how the change from ”manual transmission shifting in an old truck“ that was lost to time as the automatic cars became de rigueur for the masses. Or how the day robodriving was activited for transportation, the accidents were no better than when humans were driving. Until a slight shift was made in the software and after that, human driving was thereafter considered so risky it was nearly outlawed, as a result, vehicle deaths dropped to an all-time low.

Great story-telling and an au currant topic for everyone, not just sci-fi nerds of the early 2010s.

It’s 2025 and self driving cars and AGI are not only hot topics, but critical topics for humanity.

Enjoy.

Oh, apparently the movie is not happening now. Sad: https://www.imdb.com/news/ni65071158/

There’s a short audioclip on the book’s wikipedia page with the author, Daniel H. Wilson, a robotics engineer.
