Stanley 0108
Effective & Reliable

Stanley pocketknife 10-049
By: Luke Dorny
Whilst spending time learning woodworking in the early 2010s I stumbled upon this simple and reliable metal pocket knife that takes up hardly any space in your pocket.
“A pocket knife?” you may ask. “Really?”
But I think you’d be surprised at its utility. I regularly open packages, mail, zip ties, twine in the garden, I even break down cardboard boxes with this thing which is notoriously rough on blades.
Blades are stainless steel, replaceable, and they’re incredibly sharp yet honable, and come in two styles.
I’ve managed to lose one here and there and it doesn’t bother me at all. I picked up four or five of these at the same time, knowing at that point that this is my ‘go-to’ carry item.
I don’t have any other ‘carry’ items, beyond my sketchbook, pencil bag, and camera.
What is crazy to me is how often I find myself using this knife: nearly every day at least once.
The only downside is that you can’t flip it open, but in most cases, this’s a safeguard that I respect.
The actual assembly is easy to take apart using just a coin in your pocket via the brass screw.

Simple, reliable, low-cost. Win.
Let’s see: Which pocket do I always hold this little daily accessory?

Every single pair of my jeans show this mark. It’s like my classmates who held their tobacco cans way back in the ‘80s.
